THE CASE NOTES OF DETECTIVE J A BRAMHALL
Policing 1919-1945
This blog is a tribute to the police career of my great grandfather, James Andrew Bramhall, who was a police officer in Grantham Lincolnshire from 1919-1945. As his descendant, and also a police officer almost 100 years since he began his career, I aim to highlight some of his cases, researched from contemporary newspapers, with commentary from the perspective of modern criminal justice.

ABOUT J A BRAMHALL
What I know...
James Andrew Bramhall hailed from Selkirk, joining the army at aged 17 in 1914, in order to fight in the first world war. He served in the Machine Gun Corps, where he ended up being discharged at the end of the war to Grantham, the headquarters of the corp. He married his wife, Clara, and they settled in the town, where he became a Police Officer, serving from 1919 until his death (in service) in 1945.
